Giuliani says Flynn offenses like 'spitting on the sidewalk,' calls Mueller team 'sick puppies'

Image
President Trump's attorney Rudolph Giuliani told Fox News on Tuesday night that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn had admitted to offenses comparable to "spitting on the sidewalk" after Special Counsel Robert Mueller recommended minimal prison time for the former three-star Army general. In a sentencing memorandum and a heavily redacted addendum filed Tuesday evening, Mueller's team said Flynn had met with investigators 19 times and provided "substantial" help to investigators about "several ongoing investigations." In addition, prosecutors said Flynn had provided "firsthand information about the content and context of interactions between the [Trump] transition team and Russian government officials." In response, Giuliani told Fox News that nothing in the sentencing memo suggested collusion between Trump and Russian officials. The former New York City mayor lambasted the Mueller team as "overzealous media-inspired

Les Moonves misled investigators, destroyed evidence in sexual misconduct probe: report

Image
Former CBS CEO Les Moonves, who resigned in September  following a slew of sexual misconduct allegations made against him, "destroyed evidence" related to the case, according to a report released Tuesday night. Moonves, 69, was trying to save his reputation at the network, and his multimillion-dollar severance package, when he "misled investigators" working on behalf of the company, The New York Times reported, citing a 59-page report drafted for the CBS board. FORMER CBS EXEC LES MOONVES ACCUSED OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT BY ACTRESS BOBBIE PHILLIPS IN NYT REPORT The draft, according to The Times, said Moonves "engaged in multiple acts of serious nonconsensual sexual misconduct in and outside of the workplace, both before and after he came to CBS in 1995.” Moonves resigned from the company after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct in two New Yorker articles written by Ronan Farrow. Moonves said the accusations were "appalling" and fals

Mueller memo says Michael Flynn has provided 'substantial assistance,' recommends lenient sentence

Image
Special Counsel Robert Mueller filed a memorandum Tuesday recommending a lenient sentence -- with the possibility of no prison time -- for convicted former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and stating that Flynn has offered "substantial" help to investigators about "several ongoing investigations." The bombshell release comes as additional sentencing memorandums are expected within days in the cases of former Trump attorney Michael Cohen and ex-campaign chairman Paul Manafort, amid multiple reports and indications that the long-running Mueller probe into ties between President Trump's team and Russia is winding down. “Given the defendant’s substantial assistance and other considerations set forth below, a sentence at the low end of the guideline range, including a sentence that does not impose a term of incarceration – is appropriate and warranted," the memo states. Flynn sat for 19 interviews with the Special Counsel's office and other De

Teacher placed on leave over KKK-themed holiday jingle

DOVER, N.H. – The teacher for a class in New Hampshire in which students were videotaped singing about the Ku Klux Klan to the tune of "Jingle Bells" has been placed on paid administrative leave. Dover Superintendent William Harbron told Foster's Daily Democrat Tuesday that putting John Carver on leave will allow school officials to fully investigate what happened. Cellphone footage surfaced over the weekend of the students singing, "KKK, KKK, Let's kill all the blacks," in class at Dover High School. Harbron said in a letter to the school community Monday the incident was part of a class assignment about the Reconstruction period in American history. Carver has not responded to requests for comment. The president of the Dover Teachers' Union says they are working with school officials to determine the facts.

The two met at Obama's offices in Washington D.C., on Nov. 16, according to a Tuesday report from  The Washington Post . Now, O'Rourke said, he and his wife are "thinking through a number of things" and have "made a decision not to rule anything out." Bankruptcy filing provides rare window into diocese finances

Archbishop John C. Wester, head of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, pauses while announcing the diocese will be filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection next week, as clergy sex abuse claims have depleted its reserves, during a news conference in Albuquerque, N.M., on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018. (AP Photo/Susan Montoya Bryan) ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico's largest Catholic diocese has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in recent months on lawyers to fight claims of clergy sex abuse and to prepare for a potentially lengthy battle in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. The Archdiocese of Santa Fe's petition for reorganization provides a rare look into the finances of a religious organization that for decades has been wrestling with the financial and social consequences of a scandal that rocked churches across the country. Archbishop John Wester describes the filing as an equitable thing to do as church reserves dwindle. He says compensating the victims is a top priority. Nati

Joan Collins talks past rape, says stars don't have to tolerate sexual harassment

Joan Collins survived being drugged and raped early in her career but insists that tolerating sexual harassment is a choice. "I only married him because I was so embarrassed that he had taken my virginity," Collins, 85, told The Observer of her first husband, Maxwell Reed, who she claimed raped her on their first date when she was just 18-years-old. "He took me to a place called the Country Club in Hanover Square. We walked up lots of stairs to a small, candle-lit apartment where he asked me what I wanted to drink and gave me a rum and Coke. It was a Mickey Finn. I was drugged. He said, 'I am going to have a bath,' which I thought was very strange," she recalled. Control of Alaska House could come down to coin toss

Image
If Democrat Kathryn Dodge appeals for another recount and it results in a tie, the race between her and Republican Bart LeBon could be decided by a coin toss. (AP Photo) Control of the Alaska state House has come down to just one race – and it could be decided by a coin toss. Following a recount, Republican Bart LeBon edged out Democrat Kathryn Dodge by just one vote. Previously, the pair was tied with 2,661 votes apiece. Dodge has until Wednesday to appeal the recount, the Juneau Empire reported . She said she will “think on things” with her team. “People kept calling it close,” Dodge previously said of the race. “I just didn't know it was going to be squeaky.” LeBon wasn’t confident his victory was secured. “I don’t think this is over. Do you? I’m pretty sure this has got another layer to it,” LeBon told the Juneau Empire. “I would be thrilled if it was over, but is this over? I just don’t think so.” Should LeBon’s victory be certified, Republicans would narrow

Michelle Obama’s advice to Meghan Markle: ‘Don’t be in a hurry to do anything’

Former first lady Michelle Obama revealed the advice she would give to Meghan Markle as the new member of the royal family. Obama told “Good Housekeeping” that she would advise the Duchess of Sussex to take her time launching new projects as she becomes more accustom to her new royal duties. “Like me, Meghan probably never dreamt that she’d have a life like this, and the pressure you feel – from yourself and from others – can sometimes feel like a lot,” the former first lady told the magazine. “So my biggest piece of advice would be to take some time and don’t be in a hurry to do anything.” PHOTOS: MEGHAN MARKLE'S HOTTEST SHOTS Obama recalled her first few months in the White House and getting her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, adjusted to their new life. “I spent the first few months in the White House mainly worrying about my daughters, making sure they were off to a good start at school and making new friends before I launched into any more ambitious work. I think it’

Fraternities, sororities sue Harvard over single-sex rule

Image
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Several fraternities and sororities are suing Harvard University over a 2016 rule that discourages students from joining single-gender clubs. Two fraternities and two sororities filed a lawsuit against Harvard in Boston's federal court on Monday, while another sorority sued the school in Massachusetts state court. The lawsuits say Harvard's rule discriminates against students based on their sex and spreads negative stereotypes about students who join all-male or all-female groups. They're the first lawsuits challenging the rule. Harvard officials did not immediately provide comment. The rule says students in single-gender social clubs can't lead campus organizations or sports teams, and the school won't endorse them for fellowships. It was meant to curb secretive all-male groups that the school previously accused of having misogynistic attitudes, but it also prompted some fraternities and sororities to close or go co-ed.

Conservative writer Corsi files criminal complaint against Mueller, alleges bid to seek false testimony

Image
Conservative author Jerome Corsi on Monday filed a “criminal and ethics complaint” against Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team, accusing investigators of trying to bully him into giving “false testimony” against President Trump. The complaint, which Corsi had threatened for days, is the latest escalation between Mueller’s team and its investigation targets. The 78-page document, asserting the existence of a “slow-motion coup against the president,” was filed to a range of top law enforcement officials including Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz, D.C.’s U.S. Attorney Jessie Liu and the Bar Disciplinary Counsel. “Dr. Corsi has been criminally threatened and coerced to tell a lie and call it the truth,” the complaint states. Corsi, who wrote the anti-President Obama book "The Obama Nation" and is connected with political operative Roger Stone, has claimed for the past week that he was being improperly pressured by Mueller’s

Liberal Democrats in California state Assembly worry moderates could hurt key votes

Image
FILE: The lights of the Capitol dome shine as lawmakers work into the night on the last day of the 2017-2018 Legislative session, in Sacramento, Calif. (AP) Despite Democrats winning three-fourths of California’s State Assembly in the November midterms, key issues are expected to pit the party’s left-wing against its more moderate coalition, The San Francisco Chronicle reported . Assemblyman Phil Ting, D- S.F., said Democrats coming from "very purple, moderate districts," may be "more liberal than their Republican predecessor," some come from "purple" districts, and their votes could reflect that. FLAVORED E-CIGARETTES ARE LATEST TARGET OF CALIFORNIA LAWMAKERS “[I] don’t see them radically shifting on many issues,” Ting said. The moderate Democrats – or “mods” as they are called in the state capitol – tend to align with business interests but shy away from criminal justice reform, and other issues deemed too far to the left. Michigan woman headed for church shoots, kills home intruder

Three Michigan women whose departure for church Sunday was interrupted by a home invader fought back against their assailant, with one of the women reportedly opening fire on the would-be thief and killing him. Detroit Police said three women -- ages 75, 55 and 29 -- were leaving for church about 10:30 a.m. when a man confronted them in the home's driveway and forced them back inside. None of the women were identified. Once in the house, the 55-year-old woman quickly retrieved a gun and fired two shots at the man, striking him at least once in the chest. Neighbor Lashundra Craig told FOX2 she heard the shots ring out. “I was about to go to church when I heard the shots," she said. "They put up the crime tape and I went to church."
